Gulf Giants have acquired the services of West Indies cricketer Dominic Drakes for the  inaugural edition of International League T20 (ILT20).

Born in Barbados, Dominic Drakes is the son of former West Indies fast bowler Vasbert Drakes.

Dominic made his T20 debut for Barbados Tridents in the 2018 edition of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). He later represented St Kitts & Nevis Patriots in CPL 2020.

The young bowling all-rounder stole the limelight after he smashed an unbeaten 24-ball 48 in the CPL 2021 final to guide St Kitts & Nevis Patriots to their maiden title.

In his short T20 career, left-arm pacer Dominic has already bagged 40 wickets in 39 matches at an average of 30.45 and an economy of 9.21. Apart from his bowling credentials, the talented Barbadian cricketer can also score some useful runs coming lower down the batting order. The left-handed batter has amassed 224 runs in 20 innings at a strike rate of 131.76, including hitting 20 fours and 11 sixes so far.

Having impressed in the CPL, Dominic made his T20 international debut for West Indies against Pakistan in December 2021. Since then, he has played in 10 T20Is for the West Indies cricket team.

Interestingly, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) had earlier roped in the rising West Indies all-rounder as a replacement for injured Sam Curran in the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in the United Arab Emirates. In February 2022, Gujarat Giants bought him in the player auction.

Dominic also has the experience of playing in the Lanka Premier League (LPL) and Abu Dhabi T10 League.

With loads of T20 experience, Dominic is expected to play a pivotal role for Adani Sportsline-owned Gulf Giants in the first season of ILT20, which is scheduled to be held January 13 to February 12 in the UAE next year.
