As Season 2 of the DP World ILT20 comes to a close, we reflect on an exhilarating journey. While our aim was to defend the title, the path was challenging. Dubai Capitals emerged victorious in Qualifier 2, securing a well-deserved spot in the finals. Despite the setback, we hold immense pride in our team's relentless efforts throughout the tournament.
Opting to bat first, we made a strategic move by promoting Usman Khan to open the batting. It was a move that provided us with a promising start. However, our innings took a tumble with the loss of quick wickets, leaving us struggling at 62 for 5. It was James Vince's resilient batting, marking his 4th fifty of the season, and Chris Jordan's late contribution that steered us to a respectable total of 138. Yet, the Dubai Capitals' bowlers delivered a stellar performance, maintaining consistent pressure and restricting our scoring opportunities. Without Vince and Jordan's efforts, our final score would have been considerably lower.
The Dubai Capitals commenced their innings with vigor, led by Leus du Plooy's exceptional performance in the Powerplay, propelling them to 73 for 0. Despite our best efforts to make breakthroughs, luck was not on our side. We built a little pressure by bowling dots at the end of the Powerplay. Liam Dawson bowled well, getting the wicket of Tom Banton, but it came a little too late as the Capitals chased down the target with ease, securing their place in the final.
Though it was a challenging evening, we commend our Giants for their unwavering dedication and resilience on the field. Additionally, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Giant Army for their steadfast support throughout the season. Looking ahead, we are fueled with determination to bounce back stronger in the next season, eager to reclaim the championship trophy once again.
